  • Our Experience: After exploring the tourist areas, we looked on Google and serached the map and followed a small trail that led us to a secluded area with a monestary that led to a section of the river. The kids loved splashing in the shallow waters, while we enjoyed the serenity of the canyon.
  • Pro Tip: The water can be chilly, so pack towels and warm clothes for after your swim.

2. Crno Jezero (Black Lake), Durmitor National Park

Located in Durmitor National Park, Black Lake is a breathtakingly beautiful spot surrounded by dense forest and rugged mountains.

  • Why It’s Great for Families: The calm, shallow edges of the lake are perfect for kids to paddle in. Plus, the walking trail around the lake offers plenty of scenic spots to take breaks or have a picnic.
  • Our Highlight: We ventured off the main path and found a quieter corner of the lake where the kids could safely swim while we soaked in the incredible views…Or should I say I joined in to with the swimming.

3. Lake Skadar

  • Where to Go: We took a boat trip from Virpazar and found a secluded swimming area away from the crowds. The water here was warm and inviting, making it a hit with the kids.
  • Hidden Gem: With a car, you can explore lesser-known spots along the lake’s shores, like small coves or river inlets.

4. Zupci (Bar)

A true hidden gem, Zupci offers a wild swimming experience that feels untouched by tourism.

  • Our Discovery: After visiting a tiny café run by a lovely local lady (who makes amazing Turkish coffee and baklava!), we followed her advice and walked a short trail to a stunning wild swimming spot. The water was crystal clear, and we had the entire area to ourselves.
  • Why It’s Special: This spot combines the beauty of nature with the charm of local hospitality—a memory we’ll cherish forever.
  • Secret Spot: Here the the cafe bearable (5 min walk to the spot)
