Matador GlobeRider45 Review

Built for Minimalist Travel with Maximum Function

After months of over-researching and second-guessing every possible one-bag option, I finally landed on the Matador GlobeRider45 and I’ve got to say, this bag hits the sweet spot for anyone chasing that elusive “one bag that does it all.”

If you’re into minimalist travel, but still want smart organisation and durability without screaming “I’m a backpacker,” this might be your perfect fit. Here’s how it holds up in the real world:

First Impressions: Clean, Tough, and Travel-Ready

The 45L size gives you a little extra room over the GlobeRider35 without tipping into checked-bag territory. It’s still designed to pass as carry-on for most airlines, while giving you space for actual packing cubes, tech gear, and more than just two T-shirts.

The materials feel premium and rugged, with weather-resistant zippers and that signature Matador stretch mesh on the exterior. It’s the kind of bag that looks sleek enough for city travel, but won’t flinch at a rainy bus stop or a quick hike.

Design & Layout

  • Pockets that make sense: The top fleece-lined pocket is great for things like AirPods, sunglasses, or your phone at security. There’s also a well-hidden back pocket for your passport or emergency cash…genius.

  • Main compartment: Clamshell-style with a laptop sleeve that’s accessible from the top or side (but strangely not lockable unless you rig something).

  • Internal organisation: The mesh pockets inside the lid vary in depth, perfect for splitting up tech cables, meds, or other small bits you need to access on the go.

  • Admin panel: Not overly complicated, which I liked. Some people might want more pockets, but it avoids that “too many slots and nothing fits” trap.

Comfort & Carry

The shoulder straps are well-padded and the load lifters make a real difference, especially if you’re carrying this for longer stretches. The hip belt is removable and stows away cleanly, which is great if you’re city-hopping and don’t want the extra bulk.

That said cord management could be better. For a bag at this price point (around £290 USD), you’d expect integrated strap keepers. Still, nothing a bit of gaffer tape or aftermarket loops can’t fix.

Tech & Travel Features

  • Laptop sleeve: Padded and magnetically closed, great for quick access at airport security.

  • Compression straps: Smart placement that doesn’t block access to the main compartment.

  • Stretch bottle pocket: Holds bottles securely and works well with the compression strap looped through a bottle handle.

The Minor Gripes

  • No dedicated way to lock the laptop zip (although a small lock can be rigged).

  • The admin panel has four pen slots—more than most people need—and could benefit from more usable space.

  • No built-in strap keepers or cord control, which feels like an oversight at this price.

  • The price!

Final Verdict

The Matador GlobeRider45 is a nearly perfect one-bag travel companion. It’s durable, understated, and built with thoughtful features that work for real travellers, not just marketing checklists.

It balances structure with flexibility, packs like a dream with cubes, and avoids the overcomplication that ruins so many “do-everything” bags.

If you’re a digital nomad, slow traveller, or just someone who wants to carry less but still be fully prepared, this bag is worth every penny.
