  • V Grand Hotel Medellín Review: We Stayed for the Breakfast (Almost)

👉 Need a quick hotel pick? See the best-rated Medellin Hotels here.

During our time in Medellín, we stayed at two different properties.

The first was V Grand Hotel.

And while there were plenty of things we liked about the hotel, one feature stood out above everything else.

The breakfast.

In fact, by the end of our stay it became one of the things we talked about most.

After months of travelling through Latin America, we’d experienced every type of hotel breakfast imaginable. Some consisted of little more than coffee and a pastry.

V Grand Hotel was different.

It felt like someone had actually thought about creating a breakfast that guests would look forward to.

For families travelling Medellín, that matters more than you might think.

If you’re considering staying at V Grand Hotel, here’s our honest review.

Why We Chose V Grand Hotel

When planning our Medellín stay, location was one of the biggest priorities.

We knew we wanted to stay in El Poblado because it consistently came up as one of the best areas for visitors and families.

The combination of restaurants, parks, cafes and walkability made it an easy choice.

V Grand Hotel offered exactly what we were looking for:

  • Modern rooms

  • Good reviews

  • Great location

  • Breakfast included

After spending a month in Palomino, the idea of a comfortable city hotel sounded pretty appealing.

First Impressions

From the moment we arrived, V Grand Hotel felt modern and well looked after.

The design felt fresh without being overly fancy.

Everything was clean.

Everything worked.

And after months of moving between destinations, that reliability was surprisingly refreshing.

The location was another immediate positive.

Being based in El Poblado meant restaurants, cafes and shops were all within easy reach.

For families travelling Medellín, being able to walk places is a huge advantage.

The Room

Our room was comfortable, modern and had everything we needed for a city stay.

The air conditioning worked well.

The beds were comfortable.

The room was clean.

And most importantly, it provided a good base for exploring Medellín.

Would it be the biggest room we’ve ever stayed in?

No.

But for a few nights in one of Colombia’s most exciting cities, it worked perfectly.

Let's Talk About the Breakfast

This is where V Grand Hotel really stood out.

After months of travelling through Colombia, we’d eaten plenty of hotel breakfasts, and this was easily one of the best. There was plenty of variety, the quality was excellent and everyone in the family could find something they enjoyed.

In fact, we often found ourselves lingering over breakfast while planning the day ahead because it was such an enjoyable way to start the morning.

Is the Breakfast Worth It?

Absolutely.

If breakfast is included in your rate, you’re getting excellent value. If you’re choosing between similar hotels, the breakfast alone is a genuine point in V Grand Hotel’s favour.

Exploring Medellín From V Grand Hotel

One of the biggest advantages of staying at V Grand Hotel was the location.

When travelling as a family, we quickly realised that where you stay can completely change your experience of a city.

Thankfully, V Grand Hotel made exploring Medellín easy.

We spent much of our time walking around El Poblado, grabbing coffee, finding restaurants and simply enjoying the atmosphere.

There was always something nearby.

Whether we wanted breakfast, lunch, a supermarket or somewhere to sit and people-watch, we rarely needed to travel far.

For families, that convenience is incredibly valuable.

The less time you spend organising transport, the more time you spend enjoying the destination.

Why El Poblado Works So Well

If you’re researching where to stay in Medellín, you’ll almost certainly come across El Poblado.

After staying there ourselves, it’s easy to understand why.

The neighbourhood offers a balance that many cities struggle to achieve.

It’s lively without feeling chaotic.

Modern without feeling sterile.

Tourist-friendly without feeling like a tourist trap.

For us, El Poblado felt like somewhere we could actually imagine living rather than simply visiting.

There were plenty of parks, cafes, restaurants and family-friendly spaces, and the overall atmosphere felt relaxed and welcoming.

Would we stay in El Poblado again?

Absolutely.
