Our Day at Lake Skadar Montenegro
1. Morning: National Museum and Quirky Cave Shop

We started our day with a visit to the National Museum, a great introduction to the history and cultural significance of Lake Skadar and the surrounding region. We also used this opportunity to buy a pass to all the lakes which the people there were very suprised and happy we did.
The kids enjoyed the exhibits, while we learned more about the area’s rich biodiversity and heritage.
Just a short walk from the museum, we stumbled upon a quirky shop built into a cave, selling local wines and spirits. The shop itself was an experience, with its unique setup and charm. Of course, we couldn’t resist picking up a bottle (or two!) to take back to our accommodation.
2. Midday: Hidden Beach and Scenic Drive

With no boat tours available in the morning at Virpazar, we decided to take a scenic drive along the narrow, winding roads surrounding the lake. This led us to a less-touristy beach and café, where we enjoyed a peaceful swim and a light lunch.
The café was simple but offered fantastic views of the lake, and the kids loved splashing around in the calm waters. Sometimes, these unplanned stops turn out to be the best part of the day!
3. Afternoon: Lake Skadar Boat Tour

Later in the afternoon, we returned to Virpazar, where the boat tour scene was in full swing. Be prepared: multiple people will approach you to sell tours, each offering slightly different options. Take your time to choose the one that suits you best.
We opted for a private Lake Skadar boat tour, which was ideal for our family (I think it cost around 50 Euros.) The hour-long trip was incredibly peaceful, with stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The guide pointed out various bird species, including herons and pelicans, and shared stories about the lake’s history.
Pro Tip: A private boat tour gives you more flexibility and a quieter experience, which is perfect if you’re travelling with kids, as ours wanted to move around and see all the wildlife.
4. Evening: Sunset Views

After the boat tour, we drove to a nearby viewpoint to watch the sunset over Lake Skadar Montenegro. The golden light reflecting off the water and the peaceful atmosphere made it the perfect way to end our day on our journey back to accomadation in Bar.
