What's the Best Way to Get from Bogotá to Medellín?

If you’re travelling on a tighter budget or enjoy overland travel, the bus is still a comfortable and reliable alternative.

Our Experience
After spending time exploring Bogotá, arriving in Medellín felt like a completely different experience.
The warmer weather was immediately noticeable, and we loved exploring neighbourhoods like Laureles, riding the Metro and spending Sundays at Ciclovía.
Both cities have their own personality, which is exactly why we’d recommend visiting both if you have the opportunity.
Driving Yourself
Hiring a car is possible, although we wouldn’t recommend it solely for travelling between the two cities.
The drive takes around 8–9 hours, crossing mountain roads with plenty of twists, turns and changing scenery.
Road conditions are generally good, but traffic and weather can significantly increase journey times.
Private Transfers
Private transfers are available but tend to be expensive.
They’re usually only worthwhile if you’re travelling as a group or planning multiple sightseeing stops between Bogotá and Medellín.
For most visitors, flying is both quicker and better value.
